THE “F5” (FASCINATING FACTOID FOR FANATICAL FLORIDIANS) –

After a failed attempt at country music stardom in Nashville, James William “Jimmy” Buffett traveled south in the early 1970s unsure of his future in music or, in his own words, life in general.

Over 20 million sold albums and an estimated net worth around $1 billion later, it’s clear that this trip to south Florida and the Keys would prove fruitful. While enormous commercial success made his a household name globally, Buffett never denied his muse, always crediting Florida and the Keys as the place that made it possible.

While not a native Floridian, the escapism theme centric to much of Buffett’s music is often associated with our state, causing flocks of Parrotheads from around the world to migrate here in search of their own answers. Fan or not, no one can deny that he brought a lot of smiles to a lot of faces and for that reason will be sorely missed.
