THE “F5” (FASCINATING FACTOID FOR FANATICAL FLORIDIANS) –
Often lost in the mix of things our state does exceptionally well: grow a sh#tload of food, lumber and decorative plants.
Florida is a formidable farmer.
According to recent data from the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, our state ranks first nationally in the value production of bell peppers, total value floriculture sales, value of foliage plants for indoor use, Valencia oranges, grapefruit, sugarcane, fresh market tomatoes, and watermelons. The state ranked second in value of production for all oranges, strawberries, sweet corn, and non-Valencia oranges. Florida ranked third nationally in cabbage. Writing this makes me hungry and I now want to combine/eat all of this stuff (the decorative plants? Yep, I’d eat those, too) in a single dish. Yummy!
