THIS WEEK’S WEBINAR HIGHLIGHTS

Featured Webinar: Imminent Danger: Spotting Site Risks & Saving Construction Insureds, TUES, 8/5, 11a – 12p Eastern

If you build it they will come…and probably fall. Everyone knows construction sites are dangerous. What people don’t know is the breadth of exposures that exist, how to identify them, and what to do to ensure they don’t cause injury. FISCE welcomes construction site risk management expert Michael Faith as he shares experiences and tips from his decades working in the field. Insurance pros who attend will explore the risks that impact any size construction business as well as learn where prevention efforts can impact their workers and their bottom line.

This Week’s Schedule/Highlights (all times Eastern. Keep scrolling to see the full month schedule.)

  • TUES, 8/5, 11a – 12p - Imminent Danger: Spotting Site Risks & Saving Construction Insureds. Our featured Webinar this week! See description above.

  • WED, 8/6, 9a - 1p - For Property & Casualty Licensees in 2025: 4-Hour Law & Ethics Update. Learn the latest happenings and get compliant! Legendary Florida Man Dave “Special Sauce” Thompson returns to talk about recent legislation, storms, mitigation and a slew of other issues that often annoy insurance pros in the Sunshine State.

  • WED, 8/6, 2 – 3p – An Hour with Dave: Understanding Ordinance or Law (Because Insureds Still Don’t). Ordinance or Law exposures continue to evolve and your insureds still don’t understand why it matters. It’s imperative that you stay up to date with exposures that affect personal or commercial insureds in your area. Insurance pros who take this course with instructor Dave Thompson will gain expertise on how to keep up with exposures, explain them to insureds, and secure the coverage needed to avoid ugliness at claim time.

  • WED, 8/7, 9a – 12p – Flood Insurance: What You Need to Know. Dave is back in the hotseat for a discussion on many factors regarding flood insurance and the National Flood Insurance Program. This course follows the general curriculum for flood insurance training as set forth by FEMA. Completion of this course will satisfy FEMA’s 3-hour Basic Flood Insurance Course requirement for agents to sell flood insurance.

THE “F5” (FASCINATING FACTOID FOR FANATICAL FLORIDIANS) –

My fellow FL history geeks: we owe a tip of the hat to the hatters.

It’s August which means droves of students will soon return to the hallowed halls of our state’s many colleges and universities. While UF and FSU have roots dating back to the mid-19th century, no institute of higher learning in the Sunshine State has operated under it’s current iteration longer then Stetson University.

Established in 1883 as DeLand Academy, it was renamed in 1889 in honor of John B. Stetson, a hat manufacturer who made generous donations to the university and served alongside founder Henry Addison DeLand as a trustee. The school’s nickname (the Hatters) and mascot “John B” are an obvious tip of the hat to the helpful hatter.

DeLand Hall, initially opened in 1884, was the first academic building on campus and is still used today to house administration offices. It is known as the oldest building in Florida in continuous use for higher education.
